Introduction to Lao Tzu's Taoism
The mystery of Lao Tzu will be revealed when the original Taoism he created is thoroughly comprehended.
Lao Tzu was a high-minded humanist rather than a visionary. He was not a mystic. His Taoism is exoteric(not belonging to the inner sect or circle). It is blunder to view him as esoteric. The only way to understand him is the same way we approach great philosophical works.
Among all -ism alleged to focus on Tao, hardly any has properly represented the Tao of Lao Tzu. He may be the great philosopher who had been mostly misunderstood in the world.
Lao Tzu himself had said: "My theory is [basically] very easy to understand and practice; [unfortunately majority people of] the world would not [make an effort to] learn about it, [let alone] to carry it out."(Lao Tzu, 70.I)
Lao Tzu was a philosopher in the Hellenic sense. Accordingly, his thought must be approached as thought of ancient great Greek philosophers, like Socrates and Plato, were studied(researched).
